DIALOGUE BETWEEN PEMA & TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD PULAU PINANG

PEMA had a fruitful dialogue with TNB on 20th November 2023 at Wisma TNB, Pulau Pinang. A delegation of 5 members from PEMA was headed by PEMA President, Ir. Lee Weng Keen. They meet TNB Head of Retail State (Penang), Retail Division – Ir. Ts. Norhizami Bin Abu Hassan and his 7 members delegation.

Among the issues discussed were:

1. Schedule of TNB works for industrial category & flow chart & new procedures and time duration on application for MV/HV large power user by TNB Pulau Pinang.
2. Requirement & procedures by TNB with regards to application to JKR/MPPP for permit approval (such as road cutting & deposit to JKR & MBPP) & documentations.
3. Additional CSP requested after 1st payment of CSP due to JRP requested for the 50m length Tar Road. Supply had already been upgraded, only additional CSP issue.
4. TNB schedule of work keeps on getting delayed. TNB contractor cannot start work. The excuse is requiring a full B4 (open) Chargeman onsite in order to work, even though the new substation hasn't energised the supply.
5. Road cutting permit schedule: Normally, TNB takes at least 3-6 months to submit to MBPP/JKR to apply syarat. Besides this, TNB also needs at least 1-2 months to check the mapping plan and traffic management plan. This affects the schedule of work in order to pass to TNB project to compile the syarat and get the permit.

The dialogue was very fruitful and both parties managed to resolve some of the issues. PEMA thanked TNB for the time and opportunity to voice the industry concerns. Both parties hoped that the closed working relationship between PEMA and TNB Pulau Pinang will continue to flourish. It was agreed that another dialogue would be held 6 months later.
